Biker Friendly Places to
Eat

 | BABE'S,
Roanoke, TX. Location: 104 N. Oak, Roanoke, about 3 blks south of Hwy. 114.
Now this is a great CHICKEN restaurant! Family style with plates piled high
with delicious all-you-can-eat chicken and the trimmings. If chicken fried
steak is your thing, Babe's is prepared "home style" -- not
tenderized but cut steak with each piece hand breaded. Babe's is housed in a
1908 blacksmith shop with lot's of "stuff" hangin' on the walls.
Hours: 4:30pm-9:00, Tues-Sat; 11:00am-3:00 on Sundays. Babe's popularity
brings crowds every evening, but it's worth the short wait. Ratings: Food:
9, Service: 9, Motorcycle Ambience: 10 |
 | BACON'S,
Hurst, TX Location: 737 Grapevine Hwy., Hurst (just north of Harwood). Tel:
817-281-5911. Home Cooking at it's best! Bill Taylor says, "Our family
has made Bacon's a favorite breakfast place for several years. Outstanding
omelettes, muffins, etc. The gal that owns Bacon's pampers everyone. It's a
favorite of the Colleyville ritzy crowd. So popular they doubled the seating
capacity last year (thank goodness) You'll love it! Ratings: Food: 9,

 | (The) BEE HIVE,
Albany, TX. Location: About 1/2 mile from downtown Albany going toward
Abilene on the south side of the road. Tel: 915-762-3034. Albany may be a
bit too far for a casual bike ride from the "MetroMess," but this
restaurant needs to be on any good restaurant list. The Bee Hive is open for
lunch, but if you like shrimp (Thursdays) or steak (Friday and Saturdays),
this is one of the best. All the shrimp you can eat, fried and boiled, for
about $20. They keep bringing it until you explode, and it is excellent!!
You need to be at the restaurant right at 6:00pm unless you want to wait
forever to eat!! |
 | BUTTERMILK CAFE AND
MARKET, North Dallas Location: 17604 Dallas Parkway, North Dallas.
Tel: 972-267-2110. The new Buttermilk Café and Market is tasty as mom’s
apple pie and then some. This casual dining-make that home cookin’-restaurant
is part of the III Forks empire just off Trinity Mills and Dallas North
Tollway. It's a combination diner, gift shop and slice of Americana. It
feels like a soda shop on one side with a lunch counter and big overstuffed
booths. The dining room-on the other side-could be a roadside café in
Smalltown, USA. The crowds are flocking here, because the food is stick to
your ribs good. Expect a short wait during peak lunchtime, but the turnover
is pretty quick. (Description supplied by KRLD's restaurant reviewer.) |
 | THE CACTUS FLOWER,
Alliance Airport, North Ft Worth Location: 2401 W. Port Parkway (south end
of Alliance Airport) Tel: 817-491-9524. Good restaurant primarily for
breakfast and lunch because they're only open for dinner on Fridays and
Saturdays. Huge portions. The chicken fried steak plate has two large steaks
-- real steak -- not ground meat. Gayle Weaver say she likes their greens
and chicken'n'dumplings. Not a regular biker "hang-out," but one
Gold Wing group meets there monthly. The condition of the rural roads
Alliance is very unpredictable, but there are some new
"industrial" roads around the airport that are very nice and
afford a great views of the American Airlines facilities. Hours: Sun-Thur:
6:30am-3:00pm, Fri-Sat: 6:30am-9:00pm. Ratings: Food: 7, Service: 6,
Motorcycle Ambience: 6 |

 | CLARK'S BBQ,
Tioga, TX. Location: Hwy. 377 at Gene Autry Dr., in "Downtown"
Tioga, TX. Tel: 817-437-2414. Clark's is a Texas tradition having been

foyer. This place is serious about its BBQ -- the kitchen is huge and it
produces many taste delights. The back roads to Tioga can give you a scenic
ride for a slice beef sandwich or ribs. Hours: M-Th 11-9, Fri-Sat 11-9:30,
Sun 11-8:30. Ratings: Food: 7, Service: 7, Motorcycle Ambience: 8 |
 | CULVER'S, McKinney,
TX Location: 1301 S. Central Exprwy at El Dorado Parkway (in a white-stone
building next to the cinema multiplex.) Tel: 972-548-7500. Try the
old-fashioned-tasting root beer. If sundae's are your thrill you'll find the
hot fudge turtle sundae is heavenly, complete with pecans, hot fudge and a
cherry on top. Each day, there's a featured custard flavor, such as
cappuccino almond fudge, Nestle's swirl or Hershey almond. But Culver's is
more than a malt shop. The counter takes orders for "ButterBurgers,"
crinkle-cut french fries, onion rings, grilled chicken breast sandwiches,
chicken tenders, or a delicious grilled chicken-cashew salad. There's a
drive-through window, but we suggest you park your cycle and head for the
dining room; it's inviting and sparkling clean with its blue and white color
scheme. This is one of 88 locations that stretch from the home base of Sauk
City, Wis., to Austin. |
 | DOVE CREEK CAFE,
Roanoke, TX Location: 204 U.S. 377 N., Roanoke, TX. This is a good, solid,
home cooking restaurant and a local favorite. If you're riding around
Roanoke it's worth the stop. |

 | HOGAN'S COFFEE SHOP
& DELI, Crowley, TX. Location: 800 N. Crowley Road at FM 1187.
Tel: 817-297-1755 This place feels as homey and friendly as the little town.
The front half is a parlor filled with antiques, magazines and games; the
back half is a kitchen where Mrs. Hogan slices, dices and cooks while
visiting with customers. The menu is short and sweet. Come early and you can
try a fresh-made breakfast burrito: potato, egg and cheese or sausage, egg
and cheese. The first is made with red-jacket spuds; the second holds just
enough crumbled spiced sausage. Most sandwiches are $4.50. The veggie
sandwich is a real winner; the roast beef is a standout with a heap of
deli-sliced beef and lots of nutty Swiss cheese. |
 | JAKE & DOROTHY'S,
Stephenville, TX. Location: On the main drag through town, just east of the
courthouse a block or two. Renowned for their chicken fried steak.
Outstanding! Those who live west of Ft. Worth (and are in the know) rave
about J&D's and we're told most try to plan their trips to ball games,
meetings, etc. around lunch at the "best eats in Stephenville." |
 | KILCULLINS

Tollway
Looking for opinions on this locations. |

Kincaid's for a taste of Texas." "The BEST hamburgers in Ft
Worth...and I eat a lot of hamburgers." "I think this restaurant
is the best dadgum hamburger place there is in the whole world. I have been
going there since I was a baby because they have extraordinary service,
people, and atmosphere." "The service is on the ball especially
call ins." "If you love hamburgers like I do, you'll not be
disappointed." |
 | LINDA'S OTHER PLACE,
Glen Rose, TX. Location 103 W Elm, (on the south side of the downtown
square) Glen Rose, TX. (Not too close to the nuclear reactor) Food here is
so good they don't need an outdoor sign so you have to hunt for the door --
look carefully you just might miss it. Hours: Tues-Thur 7:00am-2:00pm.
Fri-Sat 7:00am-9:00pm. For the tastiest melt in your mouth Prime Rib be
there on Friday night or for finger-lickin' catfish stop by Saturday night.
By the way, the homemade pies are to die for. Ratings: Food 9 1/2, Service

 | MAMA'S DAUGHTER'S
DINER, Mesquite, TX. Location: 2015 N. Galloway, Mesquite, TX. Tel:
972-289-6262. Home Cooking! Here's what people say about Mama's: "Good

 | MARKET DINER
(ORIGINAL), Dallas, TX. Location: 4434 Harry Hines Blvd., Dallas,
Tel: 214-521-0992. Tops the chart in Dallas home cooking. Professional
reviewer Ed Bamberger rates it 5 Stars. He says, "Virtually everything
I've eaten here is delicious, served hot and arrives in lightning speed.
Prices are incredibly inexpensive -- downright cheap if you ask me -- and
the daily specials are worth checking out. Check out the chicken and
dumplings or the chicken pot pie. Their meat loaf can't be beat. Breakfast
is always served. This place is NOT to be missed!" Ratings: Food 10,
Service 10, Motorcycle Ambiance: 7 |
 | MASSEY'S, Ft.
Worth, TX Location: 1805 8th Ave., Ft. Worth, Tel: 817-921-5582. Home
Cooking! Here's what folks say about Massey's, "Fantastic home cooking
just like mom used to make only without the lumps." |
 | MATTIE'S CAFE ON THE
SQUARE, Decatur, TX. Location: 201 W. Main (on the corner across the
street from the town square), Decatur, TX. Tel: 817-627-1522. This is a
favorite destination for the DFW Freedom Rider's Saturday lunch bunch. The
perfect distance from the MetroMess for lunch ride. It's a fine old Texas
Cafe where the locals get their grub. Hope you have better luck then James
Weaver in getting a piece of cherry pie! Ratings: Food: 6, Service: 6,
Motorcycle Ambience: 8 |
 | (The) MESQUITE PIT,
Weatherford, TX. Location: About a mile east of courthouse square on
Business Hwy.180 (on the north side of the highway). True West Texas BBQ.
Excellent! Always a crowd. The owners use to have a restaurant in
Breckenridge, and they were so popular that many from Breckenridge often
trek east to Weatherford to eat at The Mesquite Pit. |
 | MG's CLASSIC BURGERS,
McKinney, TX Location: 1211 N. Tennessee St., McKinney, Tel: 972-542-0600.
Here's what folks say about MG's, "This place has very good food and is
worth a drive. On the Wrong side of town but don't that take away from the
charm this little eating place." |
 | NIESTER'S RESTAURANT
& DELI, Granbury, TX Location: 4426 E. Highway 377, Granbury.
Tel: 817-573-0211. This place is a favorite of J.J. and other DFW Freedom
Rider's. Great breakfast and a deli lunch to ride for. Try the big plate
luncheon specials, the sausage plate, ham plate, etc. Ah, and for those who
love sauerkraut.... Ratings: Food: 9, Service: 8, Motorcycle Ambience: 8 |
 | PARIS COFFEE SHOP,
Ft. Worth, TX Location: 700 W. Magnolia, Ft. Worth, Tel: 817-335-2041.
Here's what folks have to say about the Paris, "When we visit Ft. Worth
the Paris Coffee Shop is a MUST. The decor, the food, the wait staff can't
be duplicated. One becomes part of "the family" when dining at
this "fine" establishment." "The food makes me feel like
I'm at Grandma's house again. And I can never eat it all, just like at
Grandma's." |
 | PEEL COUNTRY STEAKS,
Waxahachie, TX Location: Waxahachie. Tel: 817-573-0211. "Wonderful
place," according to James & Gayle Weaver. They add, "We
really like it!" Peel Country is in flea market/antique mall; not on
the highway. Great home-style cooking. Not a current "hang-out"
for motorcyclists, but a place has that biker-feel. There are also plenty of
good back roads in the area. Ratings: Food 9, Service 9, Motorcycle
Ambiance: 8 |
 | RANCHMAN'S CAFE,
Ponder, TX. Location: "Downtown" Ponder TX, 1/2 blk. off Hwy 156,
about 7 miles north of Justin. The Ranchman's is "Texas Chic." On
Friday and Saturday evenings the Mercedes from Dallas and Ft. Worth line the
street, but don't let it scare you away -- they're just getting
"down." Through the tattered screen door (they replace it with
rusted, torn screen when the old door gets in too much falls off) is some
great tasting steak. Believe it or not, Conde Nast named the Ranchman's one
of the best 10 steak houses in the world! (It's good, but the reviewer must
have been liquored up after finding his way to Ponder). Great lunchtime
hamburgers and lot's of other good eats. Ratings: Food: 8, Service: 7,
Motorcycle Ambience: 9 |
 | RED, HOT, AND BLUE
Several DFW Locations
The food is great, the atmosphere is great
and the prices are good! They play Blues Music and have musical
instruments and pics from famous Blues musicians hung up on the walls. The
place definitley has atmosphere and character. Some of their
dishes include the "Pulled Pig" sandwhich, ( I like mine Memphis
style with the "slaw" on it), wet or dry ribs, and a
favorite of mine,,,the baked potatoe with BBQ beef !!!!
The only problem you might
encounter there is lunchtime, you may have
to wait 10 mins for a table but it is worth it, well worth it !!! You
wont leave this place hungry ! |
 | ROCKETT CAFE,
Rockett, TX. Location: On Hwy. 813 about 6 miles NE of Hwy. 287 and
Waxahachie. Nothing fake here; the Rockett Cafe is an original. Housed in
what once was Rockett's center of commerce, an old gas station, this huge
building has been expanded to make a large comfortable dining room. The
house speciality -- enormous chicken fried steak that will lap over your
plate (tip -- split one with a friend). Upon departing, head north on the
blacktop that dead ends at the restaurant; a scenic curvy road leading to
Red Oak and I-35E. Ratings: Food: 8, Service: 8, Motorcycle Ambience: 9 |
 | SHED CAFE,
Edom, Tx. Location: "Downtown Edom" at FM 279 & FM 314. Tel:
903-852-7791. The great tradition of East Texas food; yummy with plenty of
rustic ambience. James Weaver calls it "Fabulous and a must stop on any
East Texas tour." Absolutely home cooking. The neighborhood ladies come
in on the weekends to cook. They have a chalk board with the pies listed -
as they run out of one kind, they erase that one from the board; there are
audible groans when they do. On Sunday's you best be there by 11:30 am
before the church crowd invades or you won't get any pie, let alone a place
to sit. Popular with the "Wingers," the Shed is about a 2-1/2 hour
ride from DFW. You have to tolerate the nasty drive around Dallas but there
are good country roads once you get into the piney woods. Ratings: Food:10,
Service: 9, Motorcycle Ambiance: 8 |
 | STAGECOACH INN,
Salado, TX. Location: On the East frontage Road of I-35. Doesn't everyone
know this place? If not, you must be from "Up North!" A Texas
tradition. Excellent food every time! |
 | SOLLY'S B-B-Q,
Addison, TX Location: Belt Line at Addison Road. Tel: 972-387-2900. If
you're crazy enough to ride your bike in the congested northern part of the
"MetoMess," then you deserve a good meal. Solly's BBQ is the
place. It's a tradition; first opening its doors in 1945. Personal opinion,
Solly's could have the best sliced beef on Texas toast anywhere. Southern
Living magazine says, "This is a relaxed, happy place...the BBQ plates
are fine, especially the lean, smoked turkey breast...the famous potato
salad looks like mashed potatoes and tastes like heaven." Hours:
Mon-Sat, 11-8. Ratings: Food:10, Service:10 (buffet), Motorcycle Ambience: 7 |
 | SUSANNAH'S,
Weatherford, TX Location: 1301 South Main St., Weatherford. Tel:
817-594-3002. Good home-style cookin' for lunch and dinner. Hours: 11-9:30
every day. |
 | TOUCH OF GERMANY,
Glen Rose, TX. Location: Glen Rose, TX. Tel: 254-897-3521. |
 | THUNDERBIRD,
Hillsboro, TX Location: On the west side of I-35 connected to the motel.
Tel: 254-582-3600. This is an old roadside cafe; a tradition for a looong
time. It's a favorite of local bikers. The Waxahachie Gold Wing group used
to meet here. If you ride the Interstate it's worth the stop for a good
breakfast or lunch. Rating: Food: 7, Service: 7, Motorcycle Ambience: 8
UNDERWOOD'S CAFETERIA, Brownwood, TX. Location: Coming into town from Ft
Worth (On 67, I think) at the traffic circle, bear to the right. It will be
on the left about 4 blocks. Tel: 915-646-1776. Not true West Texas BBQ, but
still very good. Also have chicken fried steak, fried chicken, sausage,
ribs; all are excellent. It's crowded on the weekends. If you can't then
plan for an early or late lunch and hope that a tour bus has not stopped. |
 | VAUGN'S CATFISH,
located on hwy 21 and fm127 between the cities of Winnsboro,
Pittsburgh, Mt Vernon, and Mt Pleasant. |
 | WEST END GRILLE,
Cleburne, TX Location: 1629 W. Henderson (from Dallas on Hwy. 67 through
downtown Cleburne, then about 2-1/2 miles. It's on the left just past
Kroger). Tel: 817-558-3663. One motorcyclist writes the "Biker
Gourmet" and declares, "A buffet to die for!!" Hours:
11:00-9:00, Sun-Thur; 11:00-10:00, Fri-Sat |
